Has there been any follow up information on this story or any details on the nature of the reported malfunctions?   http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/04/foghorn/texas-dps-ditches-sw-mp-handguns-reliability-issues-returns-sig-sauer/

There was a huge discussion of it some months back on the S&W forum, and no one could point to any solid information that meant anything. The newspaper article cited was so full of condensed air that I couldn't understand what was being claimed, and I'm reasonably literate. As for TTAG, well, go look at the response string Pat posted quoting from breachbangclear; there are credible claims that TTAG is not savvy enough to consider.

A Texas Ranger was in GT Distributors in Dallas, buying duty gear for his M&P9. That was a month ago. He said he heard about the problems, but thought it was people being resistant to change. He never saw anybody have problems with the M&P9s. I have been told by others that the same SIG Sauer biased attitude that exists at TXDPS also exists at DPD.

He stated that they were having issues with the ammo. That some of the shell casings were longer then normal causing the guns to seize up.. Also the gun...

Who knows? Our agency has issued M&P 40's since they first came out. No issues. I have run a variety of M&P 9, 40 and .45 in my personal fleet. No issues, but the MP40 seems like the best of the bunch from my experience.
