Digital Night Vision

Can anyone school me up a bit on digital night vision? I have been doing a little research and understand the basics. The claim about which I am curious is how the quality compares with standard tubes. Some of what I have seen claims that a decent digital unit is similar quality to a gen 2 or gen 3 tube. Does anyone have any experience, or can you point me in a good direction?

+1 to the question.

Seen a few, read up, know not nothing about how electro-optics work, but want to hear a professional opinion if there is one yet.

TNVC posted a picture on their FB in the last day or two comparing a PVS14 (I assume) with a new image that was full color.  I don't know if this is DNV as they didn't say, but it was interesting for sure.

The TNVC teaser is some sort of add on that works with any old tubes to give color vision. Seen rube goldberg versions for a few years, but they seem to be saying there's a legit one. SEEM to.

Not a new digital image intensifier though.
