REVIEW: AWS Inc. Assault Pack aka "Yote"

I like the looks of this pack and others like it, but I've got a question regarding the helmet carrier/beaver tail.

In what situation would you be strapping your helmet to the pack instead of wearing it? I'm not mil, so I guess I'm having a hard time envisioning when this would be used for that application.

Because you're not always wearing your helmet, and it's one more thing to lug around with your weapon. Think of traveling when not in combat / training operations, helmets are hot and heavy so no one wants to be wearing them unless they have to.

Nobody wants to wear one when you have to, either.

Very true... except when being shot at. Then suddenly I convince myself that ACH's stop PKM  and RPG rounds...

I never had the chance to own a yote during my last deploys, but I spent a ton of time conducting admin movements bewteen COPs/FOBs, and would have loved to have had one to stash my helmet in, instead of clipping it to my 1st line or PC once I got inside the wire.

But peep the pics in the original post; a beavertail has tons of uses.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Don't get me wrong, I like beavertails for the utility (regardless of helmets) but I wasn't sure when/why y'all stashed the helmets. I figured y'all would be wearing them during actual combat movements, so it sounds like it's when you're back on base doing admin tasks like jcustisredux mentioned.

I guess as a civvie, I see either using the helmet actively or not. And when I'm not, it would probably be in the safe or sat somewhere nearby depending on the situation (ie. class/range time/etc.)

RE: Helmet storage. Definite agreement that you take it off as often as you can get away with. Also comes in handy for those times I'm stuck carrying both the ACH and CVC.

Took some photos of my pack after getting back from SDM school, nothing groundbreaking though, so I held off posting. Here are the preliminary attachments to my plate carrier:

Apologies for the weird fuzzy exposure on the last photo. Tried to fill in with parts on hand as best I could. Did a short 1/2 mile with it (no water or ammo, but I left the ACH in the beavertail), initial impressions are good. The gear strap contraption on the strong side shoulder is either being replaced with a single piece of webbing and buckle, or moving up to match the weak side if I can. It's prone to shifting when it's that long, but if I route it under the PALS, then I can't quickly don/doff it. So I might try mounting just above my stock weld and moving the weak side buckle down.

It needs a couple other tweaks with a seam ripper and another snap on female; the standard webbing mount buckle won't go under pouches and it's hard to reach all the way back to the pack to buckle there.

Figuring out photos as I go, may look a little retarded. But hey - that's why they give me two brain buckets, right?

Imgur is killing me...been using it for years though, so I haven't gone for something better.

Bottom right.

Apologies, I couldn't edit the previous post. If it fucks up again I'll find a different host.

Off topic but yeah, after Photobucket became assholes I've been trying to find a good free image hosting site for forum stuff- any suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up. I have the old gallery link, but it shows as empty on both my phone (Android) and PC (Windows). Can't find the gallery on my devices without the direct link.
