Where are the lowers?

Gents,

Need help finding the lowers. They seem to have gone missing... at least at BCM, Spike's Tactical, etc.

Got a couple buddies looking to get a stripped one to SBR, so they are looking for somewhat of a brand name (I know, I know, they are all made by 3 manufacturers then stamped), and I don't blame them for not wanting some no-name lower they'll have probably for a long ass time.

However, BCM is not accepting orders, all the ones on the Spike's website say 4-6 week backorder, etc. I'm sure the Larue is worth the cash (duh...) but somewhat out of budget, at least for now.

The plan is to get the stripped lower and then start the SBR paperwork, and assemble the rest of the package while waiting on the BATFE (except the upper, again, duh. That's another backorder issue also... BCM.....).

So who knows where to find the $99-$130ish stripped uppers from reputable sources, that can have them in the mail soon? Really if any of the backordered companies could say "yeah, you'll be getting serial number xxx", they could start the paperwork, but I think that's crystal ballin' a little too far out, in case that serial number isn't actually the one that shows, after the paperwork is sent.

Thanks.

Not exactly. There are only a few companies that make the raw forgings, but the cutting of the forging that makes a lower is done by a whole bunch of places. Some outsource to machine shops, some do it in house on their own machinery. That's why there's variances in areas like the dimensions of the magwell and some companies get the holes in the right place and some don't.

Lowers do seem to have gone up. I've got a few DPMS AR lowers that we got recently that are going for $125; a bit more than they used to. It ain't cuz we're gettin' rich off 'em.

Those of us who know must save those that don't from those that think they do.

Ahhhh forgot about Stag. Yep looks like they do have some in, thanks for the heads up.

Side note- did I miss the memo on BCM's new factory? I'm going to guess this is why most of their stuff is out of stock, or sells out almost instantly?

MCorbin had a good suggestion to check Rainier.

Looking at thier webpage, I see they MEGA, Rainier Arms(most likley machined by MEGA, but speculation on my part), and Stag lowers in stock all under $135. Im fortunate to have them local to me and I have been very pleased in doing business with them.

I've bought 3 stripped stag lowers locally for $89-$99. With in the last 6 months. I always buy lowers locally. Because once you have it shiPped and pay the transfer fees you don't really come out ahead.

Yes, from 8000 sqft to 32000 sqft.

However, that is not the issue.

They are selling more now than the obamamania scare buying thing 2 years ago, and they are consistently over 100% of the preceeding years sales.

I know both of these companies are machining lowers in-house from quality forgings and I've assembled complete lowers (as well as complete rifles) off both brands with no issues.

On the flip side, anything machined by Superior Arms is suspect (in my humble opinion). Out of hundreds I saw in '09 & '10 I was less than impressed with the overall quality of machining, despite their claim that they're "following the TDP". If a machine shop can't maintain consistent depth when engraving lettering, have magwells that can barely fit aluminum mags and there are visible machine marks where someone ran the top of the receiver across a friggin' belt sander..... I seriously doubt the rest of the specs are going to be anywhere near close to what the prints call for. Roll Eyes

Appreciate the leads, men.

Hopefully with that new factory BCM will be able to keep their shit in stock a little longer, alas I guess when you actually make good shit people want to buy it Crazy

As far as machining my own... ha. Good thought, but I've got basically zero machining skills and/or tools. Might be an interesting project one day, but with the amount of options out there, I don't think I'd put the time and money in.

another vote for LRB lowers. They are local to my AO so extremely convenient to swing by and pick up a lower or 2. I have built 2 for myself and few for others. Their stuff is top notch. They are well known for their M14 work, but these are a hidden gem.

If there's no other lowers available, the Mega Machine or LRB brand is solid. Rainier Arms offers competitive pricing. I've build several lowers using the MM, waiting for their new ambi lower. The LRB I handled was well made and like any other lowers made, solid.
I was looking for about 3 months to find a Noveske matched set in stock anywhere.

If you haven't handled one of the Noveske matched sets, its quite impressive. Very solid feeling, almost no play between the upper/lower.

I finally found PKFirearms in IL who had a few and got it to my FFL in a couple of days.

Ranier Arms also just sent me an email that thye have some in stock. I had requested a notification through their website. I haven't heard/read anything bad about them, and I wouldn't hesitate to order from them.
Another thumbs up on Rainier Arms. A few months ago I got a Charles Daly stripped lower from them while they still had 'em. Had a minor snag but they picked up the phone quick and we got my FFL address married to the order. Even with that they got the lower to my FFL days faster than any other vendor I've used.

It was a last minute Christmas gift to my son-in-law who was born in Harrisburg, PA so he loved the CDD rollmark with his hometown. Beautiful lower too, but today they're like hen's teeth. Anyway, glad they got it here in time for Christmas!

My other orders from Rainier got here fast too.

In my opinion, if you're cool with throwing away your hard earned $$$ on junk then go for it.

But when this happens don't go bitchin'. Wink

They're not. The springs probably are...probably. The hammer and trigger aren't. Once you see one in person, you'll really be struck by how craptastic they are. To me it felt like a Carbon 15 with about half the quality.

Lobster has purchased from them. I'm still waiting for BCM uppers and lowers to come back in stock, and I think I'll just do the transfer through Weaponcraft.

Yea, I saw them too. I too am looking for a BCM lower. I emailed BCM about G&R and they told me those are legal California lowers. I read the specs and compared them to the specs of the BCM lowers on the BCM site but didnt see no difference. Can anyone explain to me what the difference is between BCM lowers from Bravo Company site and the California legal lowers on G&R?

No difference, G&R is just willing to sell to CA while BCM (for some reason..) isn't.
