Started transiting there before most LF'ers were born (70's) .  It was a mysterious old Asian city with lots of cool tourist things to do. Royal Palaces, Wat Awran (sp?) Klong tours (canals) in long boats with a 327 Chevy engine sitting high and a long prop drive, Reclining Gold Budda and also great beer and food.  Rumors were there were great bars and girls, but only just Rumors.

Most recently (not that recent, 2003) some of the quaint things were hidden and just a huge Asian City.

If I were going back, I'd look into the Royal Palaces, Gold and Reclining Buddas, the Wat and a Klong boat tour.  It can be hot and humid as hell this time of year, so if outside, hydrate and wear a hat.  If you decide to run the bars, beer in bottles, no ice and make sure the bar girl is a girl.  As a nurse, you know the related risks to night life.

Never saw any decent blades.  Suspect that anything really nice would be old and a crime to export.  No knowledge on current blades, sorry.

Enjoy

We will check out the night life, no doubt, but the wife is going with me so I'm not interested in bar girls (or whatever they are/aren't). Haven't heard of the Klong tours, so I'll research that. We're prepared for hot and humid.

There's a lot of interesting customs there, like not pointing your feet towards a monk or Buddha statue, shoes off everywhere indoors, don't touch peoples heads (not that I plan to, but still...), it should be interesting.  This will be one of the first places I've gone not on the .gov dime and where they don't inherently hate us.
