Help me decide which rifle plates to get

Diabollous ·
Hi everyone, I've been reading for a couple of weeks now on plate carriers and armor. I've decided to go with the CRYE JPC 2.0 in size XL, I'm a big guy. I'll be purchasing a SAPI cut plate in size 11"x14". I've looked at so many different rifle plates my head was spinning, but I've narrowed it down to a couple different options. It's very confusing trying to determine the various threat levels and the information in this forum has been incredible. The post from Doug Deaton was especially...

It's been suggested before, but buy plates first then choose a carrier. As for determining your probable threats - what calibers is your department seizing in the field or not? If a specific caliber &/or load isn't listed, identified then it probably was not officially tested. Now that doesn't mean no one has shot that round at that plate just that it wasn't done officially. Have you reached out to a competent Hesco dealer, run your situation & needs past them, and gotten their...

I have reached out to a dealer and they have been very helpful. They recommend the 3810 if 7.62x51 is a threat in my area, but I've never really come across it nor have others I work with. I'm very new to purchasing rifle plates so I don't want my ignorance steering me in the wrong direction. I like the idea of having 7.62x51 protection; however, maybe it's not a significant threat and I should be looking at the U210 for the weight savings and how thin it is. I'm hoping someone with some...

About a year ago, I bought a set of Hesco L210's. I went through the guys at AT Armor and they were very helpful in talking though my needs and desires vs. pros and cons of some of their products. I do not wear the plates daily so others can chime in there. When deployed, I wore the plates/vest I was issued and eventually you get used to what you have. In a way, that's less hassle then having a choice in the matter In the end, you'll need to rank your priorities (protection, weight, cost,...

Honestly, shoot Mike at AT Armor a call or an email. He has no problem walking you through your best choice and correct sizing for the plate. He doesn't try to upsell you, he legit is trying to get you the correct armor for your needs.

In response to your debate of thickness vs protection: I've found that an overwhelming majority of the LE purchasing personal plates from me decide to go with at least one U210 on the back due to the thinness of the plates and the ergonomic benefits of a slimmer plate when sitting in their vehicles.

Another happy AT armor customer. What will you be doing while wearing the plates? Is this for a low vis rig in a high risk area or for a class rig/civil unrest rig? Your choice of a JPC seems to be towards the overt. If you are going "loud" , I'd look towards the 3810 as the slight reduction in thickness provided by the U210 (which makes it easier to hide, among other things) is offset by the fact that you have it in a visible military style carrier.

My Crye JPC 2.0 just arrived. Great quality. Now it's time to get some pouches and other stuff.
