A Game-Changer: The DG-16 ruck

Pics of the Jungle Ruck. Minimal molle webbing. I have a Tyr zip-on molle panel here but under that is about the same amount of molle sewn on the face of the ruck. These have several different lids you can order. I have the slick lid.

Slick sides with a flat zipper pocket. You can't fit anything in here if you load your ruck first. 

Yoke and belt - both padded and comfy.  The waist belt/hip pad is nice and doesn't wrap all the way around your body but stops just about in front of my hips allowing you to walk up hills and take larger steps up without the belt hindering you. 

I fit a modified Tactical Tailor IV pouch behind my belt for e&e/signal items. Wraps around the frame and you can unbuckle it and wear it as a waist pack. 

Tyr makes a variety of accessories for the ruck. It really is a nice pack but the price point is astronomical. I feel really lucky to have received one.

Interesting.  As you said, the price point is a bitch, and I don't like the folks at Tyr, so it's a no-go for me.

But.

It does look like it might work OK.  The big thing is how their frame and suspension would stack up against the Crossfire designs.   It looks to be an updated version of the classic ALICE design.  If we rucked them together and switched at the half-way point, I'd be interested in what you thought.  

But.

Again it is mostly unobtainium due to price and availability.  So other than academic interest, it's not really a viable choice for most.

Two things.  SOFIC coming up soon.  So we will be hands-on with the new SAS Mk7 most skosh.  Since this is the follow-on ruck from the DG-16,  we will be concentrating on it going forward.  I think this is the bag I've been looking for, to go with the DG-16 frameset.  

After the show, we will be engaging in wanton patrolling, shooting, and other assorted mayhem.  So we hope to post pics of the rucks in the wild, along with some initial impressions.       

So is the SAS ruck the updated DG16 or are they still releasing one of those as well? SAS ruck seems to have disappeared from the site on my end.

It is my belief that the new SAS Mk 7 will be the new ruck they will be marketing.  There is always a difference between the website, production, and what's on the street.  You are hearing things "realtime" here and it takes some time for that to get out.  I am guessing that the SOFIC show will be used to gage interest here, and then production and marketing will follow.  If this is bullshit, please correct.

The SAS MK7 shares commonality with the DG 16 in that also shares the 20 DG Frame set and a 85 litre centre bag capacity ( it also can be swapped out for an internal sheet frameset that also comes with the pack). I am very happy with the end result and as mentioned by Diz SOFIC will be its unveiling as well as a sniper variant SAS MK7 ( S).  I'm also confident we will have our variant of the Goose ammunition carriage systems at SOFIC for comment and appraisal. If any of the forum ,members are attending SOFIC please call by the Team Australia stand and have a look and make comment good or bad.

In regards to website at this stage we haven't put the SAS or revised DG3's up as yet  ( a combination of we will never go off half baked and also filling current contracts). I will however always give this forum at least 24 hours notice on release of anything new. And finally we are in advance stages of having e-sales and a web site based in the US ( no more weeks of waiting ) . I will keep you updated of progress.

Out of curiosity what is your beef with Tyr? I have two if there medium vehicle bags which I love.  I really want a couple more but at $60 it is hard to swing.

I love that pack. If it weren’t for the cost I’d have one. I’d be interested to hear your continuing thoughts on it. 

Besides being a cranky old fart, I don't like Tyr because they took ideas from a buddy of mine (and many others) for gear designs, and never gave them a penny in royalties.  I guess you could say they got "free gear" for their idea, but Tyr made a lot of money off their intellectual property and there are guys in the SF community that are not too happy about it.    

But that's just me; I don't go around mother-fucking these guys all day long to anyone that will listen.  But if someone asks, I will tell you what I think.  So besides being expensive as fuck, some might say over-priced, I think they are dicks as well.  So I won't use their gear.   

But back on track, as soon as the SAS rucks are out, we will be rucking them in the mountains and forests of the Carolinas and letting you know what's up.  I am extremely excited about this because I think the DG-16 frameset is truly a "game-changer" but was not so excited about the bag.  I attempted to create something similar to the classic Mk 6  and am stoked to see they have updated that design and integrated it with the new frameset.  So I will quit bitching about the bag design at this point.  

Not only will we be testing then out, but with any luck at all, we will catch my SF buddy between deployments and get the new Mk 7 in his hands for no-shit testing.  He really likes his MR rucks and won't pull any punches.  

Looking forward to seeing what the final product looks like!  Might be something to compare how it carries a heavier load next to my hunting ruck pending the belt/conjunction with belt kit.

Why didn't Crossfire make the SRs dog-proof? 

And why is it so well sewn?!?!? This lid is still in my basement, waiting to be repaired for a friend. 

Now we know why it comes with two lids.
