I’ve been doing more research about optics and have decided I’m going to move away from the Eotech and get an Aimpoint. I feel it’ll better serve the role on a patrol rifle where I see temperatures from 100+ to a good bit below 0. I spoke with John Enloe from Aimpoint and he recommended either the T2 or M5. He said to forget about the comp M4. Has anyone had a chance to compare the m5 to the T2 and if it does anything better/worse? I do like the larger objective of the M4, but not sure that makes a difference once trained with the smaller window. Thanks
The M5 is a little bigger in length and height and uses a battery that you might have easier access to, but I'm not sure that matters much with a similar battery life between the two. The M5 is also made of 7075-T6, so maybe the housing is a little stronger than the T2.
I have both and I couldn't say that the M5 does anything better than the T2 but I am hoping for, and expecting, a bit of increased durability. The T-series are plenty tough but I have had the rheostat go on one that was beat up pretty hard and the lens crack on another that was not handled any easier. I attribute those failures to mishaps and not design or manufacturing flaws. The T-series has done me right for over a decade.
Then again, I wouldn't be upset with an M4/M4S either. I am curious as to why he said to dismiss those.
He said it’s a dated design and something about there are people who get issued their gear and those who get to choose. Plus the T2/M5 have the better front lens improvements I assume.
Well I guess if I was going to pay full retail I wouldn’t choose the M4/M4S, so there is that.
The last time I bought an Aimpoint it was an M5 and I am quite pleased with my choice.
Did you notice any difference in the ability to pick the dot up quicker with either the M5 or T2? I know the M5 tube is longer than the T2 and has the longer battery tube.
Seems the same to me but I’ve been using micros for some years so the dot is where I expect it to be when I place the gun on target.
My eyes are also starting to go so maybe minuscule differences aren’t as apparent as they may have once been.
