Hi all,

I've got a couple of nicely done tactical  Rem 870 12 ga's. One by Novak and a Hans Vang. Both great shooters.

However, last week went out with friends to a long round of sporting clays with a borrowed Beretta 12ga semi. It was a shit ton of fun.  Before I drop $1.5K on a 12ga O/U,  I'd like to go a number of rounds.  Thinking of getting a different barrel for the Novak gun.

Looking at Brownells, they have some options on Rem barrels, but the moderate priced option is for a vent rib 24" barrel by Carlsons. Anyone have any history with their barrels in an 870 12ga?

I don't anticipate a lot of rounds down range, but would like to give it a try with a current gun, before dropping $$ on a semi or O/U.

Thanks.

Had a Carlson's 18.5" barrel.  Rear sight screw threads stripped just before deer season, so I couldn't sight in.   Currently looking for a replacement.

If you're looking for a vent rib barrel (presumably with a bead sight), they should be fine.  Up until the sight broke, I was happy with mine.

Things you don’t hear in the private sector: “Damn.  I left my tea mug in the armory.”

Another option is picking up a used 870 bbl from Ebay.

With a little time watching  Ebay you should be able to pick up a bbl with RemChoke for less than the Carlsons on Midway.

Unless you just like/want a short bbl  you'll probably be much happier with at least a 28" length for smoothing out the swing on SCs.

There is no left or right.

There is only tyranny or freedom.

Thanks for all the inputs. I've got a  local lead on a great Rem barrel we'll see if it pans out.

Just to remember how  great LF is. Another member, who saw this, who I've never met or in my knowledge communicated with sent me  a PM, offering to send me his Rem Choke, vent rib barrel to try for a few weeks!  No $, no commitment, just one LF'er helping another.
