I figured this would be a decent forum for such a thread.

The cool stuff- Fitbit belt clippy thing; Agents of Shield, Season 2; Vader chef's tools- apron, silicone mitt with Imperial starburst, lightsaber tongs and fork  IMG_1364

The traditional- pajamas, this time  with an Airborne twist. "It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased. I have earned it with my blood, sweat, and tears. I own it forever, the title AIRBORNE.

The really meaningful-

A pen set from a retired Brother officer, and a replacement of a long-lost Victorinox Spartan. The pens came from a retired-officer-owned business, given with the intent of on-duty use.

The Spartan was my first knife, dad gave it to me for Christmas when I was 10. It was one of the first times he went shopping for gifts without my mom (she's not dead, they just did everything together). Without knowing it, Mom helped me pick EXACTLY THE SAME KNIFE for my dad's gift. He still has his. I, being 10 at the time, lost mine before I'd had it even a year. My fiancé Ms. V learned about it and bought a replacement. IMG_1365

I looked to see if anyone had started a thread like this for this year, and found some very interesting threads. I think everyone else should do the same search and see what they find.

A couple of bars of chocolate, a box of Scottish shortbread, a small tin of gourmet white hot chocolate mix, and the chance to spend a couple of hours on station at work this morning eating brunch that the HH6 cooked, while watching my 16 month old little guy open his presents and play.

The commandant came and talked to us. It was miserable. Nothing I hadn't heard here several months ago. The sad part is I stayed sober Xmas eve so I wouldn't be hungover during his talk. So I'm trying to make up right now.

Merry Christmas you lucky bastards.

I'm truly sorry, bro. I never had to suffer through anything like that (first off, smart enough to go Army, much love to my Marine grunt Brothers), but I empathize.

If I'd had to endure such an ordeal, knowing how I was when I was in,I'd have probably risked a DoD () to get through.

Learning has occurred. Life is good.

Nothing shocking as usual. We don't mind, as we buy what we need when we need. E.g. before the year closes (corporate taxes...), I bought a D500, and a new Tamron superzoom. The kids get lots of gifts of course.

But, two good ones worth sharing.

You Have to Fucking Eat: https://www.amazon.com/You-Hav...ng-Eat/dp/1501238663 So much truth. Get it.

And then there's this: The cannister vac has been slowly dying, and the wife is too picky about them so we keep not replacing it. I also miss having a Roomba, etc. so have been campaigning for a cordless Dyson, so I can more quickly zap up random dirt and husky furballs or the litter the cat distributes around my office since her box is in the corner, under the plotter. NO. Wife always talking about how she likes bags, cords, whatever to make it no go.

Yesterday morning I am looking for something specific and nerdy on eBay and it offers a "you may like" of the little dustbuster-sized Dyson for $16. Old model, refurbed, a reliable seller, a crapton for sale, dozens sold already. I have totally bought stuff of this level of deal; people get stuck with a pallet of old stock and want to clear it out, it's gray market (for another country...) etc. so I go for it.

Tell the wife my deal, we can try one then, and she goes "NOOOO!!!!..."

"Um, what?"

"Nothing. Nevermind."

And this morning I found she had indeed been tricking me, and for a week or three has had a V6 of some flavor in the corner wrapped up. Installed, used. It's awesome.

Post-script: 40 minutes after the eBay purchase, eBay emails me in a tizzy. The account got hacked, it is a scam. An ineffective one, as they hadn't claimed the money, so I unwound it, no risk to me. But... the wife still thinks I made it all up as a trick to find out if she bought the vacuum.

This year was a good one for me. New job (thank you LF), better life and one of the few times I've not worked or been exhausted on Christmas.  So I wanted to pass some of that on. Helped  friends out with things they weren't good at, that I am.  Did more donating this year and am thankful for a good year and the friends I have.

So, I did  receive a generous check from my Uncle and a Sportsman's Warehouse gift card from a buddy. Maybe best of all was the traditional Christmas Eve beer(s) and watching The Outlaw Josey Wales with friends last night.

The first thing I got this morning is LIFE. I'm still above ground and processing oxygen. What could top that?Mostly gift cards otherwise @$200 total from Wally World strictly for ammo purchases. 200 rounds of 9mm (50 147 gr HST, and 150 115 gr training ammo). Looking to pick up some GMM AMAX or Fusion for the .308 Savage.

Time spent with parents and older brothers family. An excellent year.

For the first time in the four years that we've been married, my wife and I were able to spend a relaxed, quiet Christmas together instead of running around, or being sick in Saudi or the Philippines.

She got me some Parade Gloss, micro screwdrivers, a lot of different microbrews, a bottle of McClelland Speyside Single Malt, and three books-America's Secret Mig Squadron , George Washington's Secret Six, and Deliver Us From Evil, the story of 3rd Bat, 506th Para Inf Reg at Market Garden.

Boy, am I lucky.

My family decided to go easy on gifts this year. New gloves, a book, some cash, a Keychain tool, a nice framed picture of my girlfriend and I, and a few other little things. GF got me an awesome new USMC sweatshirt since my old grey one is wearing out.

My stepmom went a little further and got my eyes a little leaky. She and I used to argue a lot about guns, my job, my carrying a gun all the time, etc. Over the past couple years, with Dallas, NY, Ferguson, et al, she has come around immensely in how she feels about guns and people who carry them. She bought me a beautiful  white and blue patterned "going out shirt" and told me she "bought it a size larger so you can have your tailor fit it around your gun and stuff, and your friend Charles said this small pattern would help to hide it better." She knocked it out of the fucking park. The amount of thought she put into this, and the acceptance of my lifestyle that it shows means a hell of a lot to me.

Merry Christmas, Lightfighters!

A full day off work, no calls no emails as of yet, althought they may start back up around midnight.

This ment i was able to spend time with my wife and the inlaws for the first holiday togather with us all in very long time where I was either not working or did not get called in to work in the middle of the day

Material items. A gift card and some cash.    New cordless sawzall for work, along with an  assortment of blades to go with it.   Some titanium tube and  other bits that will hopefully soon  resemble a suppressor (form 1)  for the SBR.

Got a new office chair that looks like a sports car bucket seat.

A set of 3 old fashioned looking framed patent sketches, including the 1911 and (hilariously, I think) the forward assist for the M-16/AR-15.

Some surround sound stuff for the new house. Yamaha 7.1 receiver, Polk 3-way bookshelf and center speakers, in-wall surround speakers, and a 12 inch sub. And a 65 inch 4k LED TV. All that stuff stays boxed up until the move in March.

I smoked a 17 lb brisket, starting last night at 0100 hrs.  It turned out perfect. That's a gift right there.

HOLY SHIT! Do they still make those?

I've seen some of those at toy shows that fetch big dollars.

Pretty simple stuff, but it's what I wanted.

1) Hank's Gunner stitched leather belt from the wife.

2) Dancing Hula Girl to go on the dash of my car from the boys.

3) Retro 51 Tornado pen made to resemble a Flying Tigers P40 from the In-laws - it's bad ass.

4) Cash from my folks.

Other than that some various gift cards to Barnes & Nobles & Starbucks, plus various candies/chocolates.

I've been falling so long it's like gravity's gone & I'm just floating...

Got to sleep in till 0700. Dog finally poked me awake to go out. She barfed in the front bushes. Waited till I got up. She ate a bunch of kelp yesterday. Merry Christmas daddy...

Got a coffee maker delux system from my HH6. Sweet. She's been waiting for months to give it to me.  I gave her a folder knife, and a glass breaker/hammer for her office. She loves that stuff!

Chief gave us 2017 calendars at our staff meeting. They are still photos taken of all of us from our recruiting video. I'm a badass  April!

Cooked NY steak on the grill and artichokes for dinner, along with some Charlie Champers.

Merry Christmas!

Im waiting for my Mont Blanc from Consig. Musta got lost in the mail or something...
