I am looking for recommendations for a commercial made ghillie type suit/Poncho/Jacket for hunting. This wont be worn going through the woods, but sitting on the ground bowhunting with a crossbow.

Probably your best bet is some of those 3d leaf type suits with a mesh base. They are super light and break up your outline enough for critters I would think.

Not sure of quality, but Sportsmans Guide and Coleman's Surplus have them sometimes.

I appreciate the replies. I actually found a leafy suit that has blaze orange in it to meet the legal requirements for hunting.

Plan to get one of the cheap suits and try it bowhuntibg too

I have one from Cabela’s and a top from a shop called first lite.

They work on deer and turkey for sure.   Your right about not wanting to walk around in them.   Be careful also because they can foul the strings on a bow.   If you are hunting on the ground look into some of the portable blinds.   They are great and a lot easier to move around from spot to spot.

I have one or two from Sportsman's Guide.  They are commercial made and of OK quality.  I bought them to use on a haunted trail fundraiser that we've done with the local nature center for years.  Using them at dusk, to scare the piss out of soccer moms (frequent occurrence) as well as snotty teenagers, they work fine.  Of course, that's a different target audience versus hunters or bad guys.  The base material is usually a light mesh, kind of like a mosquito net.  We did get a few rips and tears, but not too bad.  I don't know what the camo material was but it was NOT burlap.  They are ok for the price (IIRC ~$60-$75 range), but wouldn't stand up at all to a real suit.

So I'm not much of a hunter, but..

why a suit? Your grandpa killed a lot of deer wearing red flannel. Okay, maybe not YOUR pa, but someone's did.

Some people really enjoy the stalk.

I have hunted deer and elk here in Utah, and it is some mountainous rugged pain in the ass most exhilarating FUN I have ever had.

My son had hunted in Oklahoma from a tree stand.  I brought him up one year and we did a stalk and he got a deer, and he was HOOKED.

He loved it.

Its very argumentative about animal populations THEN versus now also.

I could REALLY use a upper torso blaze orange ghillie just to break up my head and shoulder area.
