So as we pass year 2 of my wait for a folder from one of our very own custom knife makers here.....which I paid in full for ($850) upon ordering.... I decided that I needed a pokey cutty folder for those increasing times when I think about getting my stab on.
So meandering through Bladeforums I found this. I have always wanted a Hoback Kwaiback but his books, like many single makers, are currently closed. Also, they are around $1400 depending on options.
He started another line, the Mk4 Ultra High End Production (UHEP) Kwaiback. Jake still assembles every one of these himself. This thing is so killer, I really wonder how his custom could be any better.
This is a very beefy knife. Solid milled Ti with a 3.75” blade (max for carry in CT is less than 4”). The gentleman I bought it from got it at Bladeshow directly from Jake. He added a custom pivot, clip and solid Ti backspacer as opposed to standoff’s. The entire knife is coated in black DLC. This is a flipper and the blade FLYS out. The blade is made of one of the new ultra steels, 20CV. He is supposed to make one of the sharpest blades around and I am a believer simply because I cut myself less than one minute after taking it out of the box. I didn’t feel it and only noticed when I saw the blood. That’s sharp.
Come beautifully packaged in a wooden box with a leather wrap. This knife was $880 originally and I was very fortunate to get it for $450. This knife was worth every penny just to curb my geometrically growing anger over the whereabouts of my other custom folder. For now.
