My late Christmas present to myself just shipped today.

I have read nothing but good things about this particular version from Smith. Anyone have any experience with any of the other M&P 10 variants?

Yes. I bought the LE Magpul version some years ago. It seemed like it wanted to shoot well but threw fliers.  I put a MI free float tube that eliminated the fliers. It will consistently group 1 1/4-1 1/2 with 168 grain match ammo. I've shot it out to 600 yards on 12" steel plates and it shoots well. I've got a Leupold VX/R Patrol 3-9 on it.  I'd almost rather use it than my issued PSS for SRT sniper work.

Thanks Bob. That pretty much reflects what I’ve seen and read about the platform. Not sure I can make hits on a 12” steel at 600 but I’ll definitely give it a go. I’ll be happy but not satisfied with hits on my 10” steel at 300.

So my gun showed up at my FFL yesterday. Got it home checked it out, everything staked as it should be, lubed it up with slip and got it out today for a quick function check. First round hit on a 12” steel at 50 yards with my Redfield Battlezone 3-9x42 scope which was zeroed on my 5.56 carbine at 50 yards.  Point of impact was about an inch low and an inch left of point of aim. Only 42 rounds total and everything feels as it should and I’m guessing I’ll be on paper when I get it out to really put a zero on it at 100. I’m pleased with it so far. Will definitely need to swap out the all of the stock furniture.

Sounds good.  Keep us updated if you will.  I always thought the S&W was a good rig to get into the .308 side.

Will do.  For a first time AR .308 I agree it’s a good way to go without dropping thousands on an SR-25 or spending less on the dubious quality of a Palmetto State Armory PA-10.

Yeah, a nice day is an understatement.

Really good day.

We need to get you and Kahana up here before we leave for the Hog Hunt on 2-28-19.

Ok Dave I’ll ping Kahana and see what he’s available for and we’ll figure it out.

After going down the "I'll build it myself"  AR/308 rabbit hole, the next AR in .308/7.62 in my inventory is either gonna be Colts AR in 308 or S&W MP10. Seems they both are good entry points into that platform/ caliber combination. For super big bucks maybe the HK 762A1 but I don't have any spare kidneys to sell...

Last I remember reading the Colt 901 is no longer in production so you may be limited to the S&W.  Unless Colt has an option out that I’m not aware of.

I may bring it along, I am however set up to use one of the lodges guns as I have no NV capability at the moment.

So a question comes to mind in regards to this rifle, will a BCM Mod 3 gunfighter grip fit?  I've heard that they wont but trust the collective here over the source that told me no (a buddy at work).
