• I had to order a few custom marking punches from Columbia Machine Tool for an upcoming job the other day and a tiny lightbulb went off. I decided to have two done up for myself, one with about 5/16" lettering to mark normal stuff in a hidden area and one with smaller type for smaller objects. A unique property marker should anything of importance be stolen. CMT has an easy to use online punch ordering system, so you can get a punch with any design or lettering you want.

Check it out...

Very Interested.

A quick GOOGLE search yielded Columbia Marking Tools

What sizes did you order? 5/16 & ?    What material can you mark?    Aluminum up to steel?  What price range is it?

Is that pick of a stamp in some sort of protective material ?

Many years ago, in American Rifleman or a related NRA magazine, there was a company that sold custom punches that would micro-mark hard metals... they were like government armory proof/inspection marks, but more complex.  Always meant to buy one, but their advertisements disappeared before I got one.

Yeah, it is a wax like protective covering over it for shipping. It comes encased in that stuff and covered with oil on the inside.

This is the model I bought. You pick the lettering height you want and then how many letters on the stamp.

I have not tried to mark any tool steel with it, so IDK how it would do on hand tools, but pretty much anything metal or alum it will mark. These things appear to be top quality. I think they can do all sorts of designs as well. I am temped to see if they will do a tiny little dick with balls in an arrow shape to use as a match mark/index mark punch for work. Something small enough that it looks like an arrow at a glace but if you look closely you can see I'm leaving little dicks all over machinery that I work on

One with real small type, especially some sort of unique proof mark type design would be great for marking firearm receivers under the stock for ID purposes should they be stolen.

It took about 2 weeks to get it after I ordered it and they sent me update emails all along the way like when it went into production, out of production to shipping....

My brother owns a branding iron making company called Brand New Industries out of Goleta Ca.  He can make custom brands for wood, plastics, kydex, steak etc.    www.brandnew.net

Yes this is a plug for his business and I am affiliated since he is my brother.  But he makes some real good brands and has a long list of customers to include the White House, every NFL team, numerous high end hotels, bee keepers etc
