I don’t know if anyone knew about this or not, but on the Remington 700P, the scope mounting screws are no longer 6-48. They are now 8-40. I wasn’t aware of this when I started setting up a new rifle today - and now I have to order screws. I contacted Remington when my screws for the scope mount wouldn’t fit. The first person I talked to didn’t know about it. The other guy told me it was on the police models only, none of the standard rifles.

Just thought I’d put this out as a PSA since I was unaware and I’m sure someone else didn’t know.

The upgrade from 6-48 to 8-40 is almost automatic on custom rifles for strength for the scope rail.  It's an easy tap on a Remington receiver.   Like you, I didn't realize Remington did it on their own.

You may have an issue with the 8-40 screw heads not fitting in your mount. Just an FYI.

I bought an assortment of screws from brownells so I was likely to get the right length and cap style and avoid angrily throwing things. I’m really jazzed that it’s a mystery on what screw to get, since we have a variety of mounts (Leupold, Nightforce, others I can’t think of).

All of this was caused by a left-handed shooter. I had to buy our very first lefty bolt gun because of this abomination.  BTW - the 700P LTR has several improvements over the last time we bought one. Threaded barrel, thicker recoil pad, different trigger - same shitty stock, but it’s serviceable until KRG makes a lefty Bravo (this said they won’t, but maybe if I ask enough).
