I'm trying to find a decent maker of custom kydex.  My kid is heading out to Infantry OSUT on Aug 13, and I want to get him something for after he is all done.  He's a huge WW2 buff, and would appreciate one of the new Boker M3 knives.  It comes with an M8A1 sheath.

I just want to get him a sheath for it that will be compatible with modern molle systems.  Any suggestions?  (Yes, I've been there, I always carried some type of fixed blade, and in reality only used my Gerber multi-tool, but, every Grunt needs a cool guy knife.)

I have the Ontario version and love it, I threw it in an old Vietnam era M8A1 I had lying around. I looked into kydex sheaths too, but before I pulled the trigger on one bought a Gerber fixed blade instead:

Yeah, I really like that knife.  That is another I have considered for him.  Maybe I'll get both.  He's a big history buff, and would dig an M3.

M3 is still awesome, and I'd be tempted to carry it if I deploy again.

Congrats on your soon to be Grunt / Meatshield, hope he ends up in the new and improved extended version of the Benning School For Boys (and isn't an immediate heat casualty).

Just chatted with the boy.  He prefers the Gerber LMF II knife.  Settled.  However, he did say if he makes it to the Airborne, he would love to have an M3.  Also settled.

Several people (here, I believe) recommended that I check out Valhalla Custom Kydex to have a MOLLE sheath made for my giant next gen Ka-bar:

http://valhallacustomkydex.com/index.html

They have a pair of clips that they mount to the back of the sheath to attach to MOLLE. I haven’t gotten around to ordering one yet because it seems rediculous to spend that kind of money for a Ka-bar sheath (that I’ll probably attach to a pack and never actually use), but I like the look of their designs. And they can do Multicam, which is important, of course. Might be worth checking out.

Bit of an older post, but just wanted to throw some personal experience in.  I have used/carried a LMFII for about a decade now.  It's great for chopping, batoning, etc (I pack it instead of a hatchet).  I think the serrations are pointless and the pommel is too large, but for the price that knife is fantastic.  I definitely recommend it.  Good luck to your son!
