Looking for any info Re: the Nightforce SHV line of scopes, more specifically the 3-10x42 and the 4-14x50.  2 tings attracted me to this line,

First it's Nightforce,

Second is the price point.  For Nightforce they are under $1K which inspired the RFI.

I've never really heard of any issues with any of their scopes but seeing as how this is almost a budget optic from them, I'm curious as to their reliability/durability.

For probably 95% or greater of my shooting the 3-10x42 would be sufficient.

Any and all info regarding this line would be appreciated.

Mark, the guy I go shooting with has an SHV. He had just over a billion rounds under it, with not one problem. He dropped it once (that I saw) and admittedly is not “gentle” with his stuff.

And, you could have stopped at “First,it’s Nightforce”.

I thought that would be the case Bill, but I had to ask anyway.

Thanks. Good to hear.

Mark,

The SHV is a lot of bang for the bug.  The guy I shoot LR/PRS comps with has one on his hot rod AR15.  While it's not an ATACR, it's a darn nice scope for what they can be had for.   It also helps that there is a huge dead space for decent scopes that are between the 10x and 18x top end that don't have a major drawback (usually price and weight).   The one thing I like about the SHV is the "Euro style" focus diopter instead of the pain in the ass locking rings.  Too bad the SHV's don't have more Mil/Mil options.

I'd say roll with the 4-14x50 F1 and get more out of the top end magnification.

Thanks, brother. I have only MOA/MOA scopes now. I just think that way but have been trying to broaden my abilities and am not against a MIL/MIL setup. It’s just a paradigm shift that I think I’m adept enough to make.

Nothing wrong with that.  It doesn't really matter so long as they match.

Kind of a follow on RFI:Sightron scopes. I’ve heard exactly zero about them and their price point isn’t really high kind of in the midrange Vortex line price wise.

Are they any good?

Ahhhh, the infamous Sightron Scopes.......

For whatever reason our SWAT team had them when I got on as a sniper.  In a group sampling of four- all of them were totally and completely worthless.  Would never track, cheesy turrets, if at all--one small step above airsoft.  Run away.

Years ago, when we finally got tired of literally being laughed at and struggling at snipers classes,  I entertained a thread here about how to convince the bean-counters at the county to pop for some NF. With the good advice I got here, we were able to grab four NF NXS 5x22x56 and have been completely content since.  ( And we went with MOA/MOA.)

Thanks, Bill. I figured there had to be a good reason I’d never heard anything about them.
