Hi,

I've hit a plateau in sidearm training, Glocks in 9mm and in the Smiths, .45s. Thinking that a quality shot timer might help me compare progress and accuracy of either, or both platforms.

On-line reviews seem to indicate that two current timers stand out:

PACT Club Shot Timer 3  and Competition Electronics Pocket Pro II.

The PACT is smaller and more "modern".  The Pocket Pro Il is larger but has enhanced displays.

Anyone have real world experience with either or both and favor one over the other ?

Thanks in advance

Original Post

PACT is the ONLY timer I have encountered in actual use.

Various models, but only PACT.

The CE Pocket Pro II is what I see at 80% of the matches I shoot. I’ve had mine for 7+ years with no issues. I prefer it to the PACT but that just may be because it has been the dominant timer in nearly every USPSA match I’ve shot over the last 15 years and I’m generally comfortable using them. I get good battery life on mine and can see the display even in full value AZ sunshine. I have seen CE’s get dropped, kicked and generally abused with no ill effects & can’t remember ever seeing one go down.

Pocket Pro II here.

We had a couple of Glock branded PACTS at work, plus a couple of older Competition Electronics Pro-Timer III's which just kept working and working while the PACTS quit.

Like XTCBX, about all everyone I shoot matches with uses Pocket Pros.  I have used mine for a couple of years, my only real complaint, and it is a minor one, is changing par times from lower times to much higher times, say 1.5 to 12 seconds.  The display speeds up the longer you hold the button and I end up going over, or under if I'm going down.  But that is probably my fumble fingers.  The original PP's were easier to set pars IMO.

I don;t think you'd go wrong with either Pocket Pro.

All good info Gents, thanks.

I can pretty much echo what DLEHR said.  I've had one for years, and now have another newer model that lets me adjust the volume, which is handy for dry-fire without irritating people in the next room or whatever.    I have the same issue with the buttons, though.  The plastic part on the pocket clips tend to come loose, leaving a metal clip behind.  I've glued both of mine back on.    I inadvertently left the older one in the back of my pickup and let it get rained on.  The display died and I thought I had killed it.  A couple days later it dried out and has worked fine ever since.
