Squirrel assassinator that is...

-Ruger 22/45
-Gemtech Outback II
-Insight 3.5MOA MRDS
-Insight M6X

M4Guru and I put probably 400 rounds through it over the weekend (in my backyard). Quiet enough to not piss off alert the neighbors to the rodentpocalypse that was occuring and accurate enough to make hits on squirrel sized targets at 30 yards. It's a keeper...

We used Aguila Super Colibri (sounds like, well it doesn't make any noise except the hammer falling and the bullet impact on target) and Federal Auto Match (about as loud as a pellet gun and stays subsonic in this pistol/suppressor combo).

Off to sew a holster for it...

Let the neighbors' "neighborhood cats" tremble in fear should I ever get something like this going. Those little bastards would get buried in our flower beds instead of defecating in them like they do now.

Nice heater Stephen. What kind of damage on target were you getting with the Super Colbri rounds?

Stephen, please update this when you're stacking furry tree rat corpses like cord-wood (PICS!!) to satiate DZ's and my lust for squirrel blood letting. Big Grin Bad-ass pistol!!

Or you can do like I do, cut out the middle man and sprinkle unshelled peanuts all over the backyard and deck.

Oh, look at him. He's so cute and sleepy. Like he's resting up and shit, getting ready to get up and play and eat into the roof of my house.

Good call! I could care less about the birds. I just need a draw for the headline event.

How's the mechanical offset & what's it doing with POA/POI at ranges between 15m-50m with your RDS mount?

I have a Buckmark with TACSOL Barrel & OutbackII combo that has a black black soul.

I've used a shit ton of loads through it & have settled on Remington Subs. The action is good for a brick before it needs torn down & sprayed out. I've grown tired of re-zeroing it after each tear down but it's the only way to keep it feeding reliably.

I wasn't happy with the performance of round nose subs on critters. Wolf Target was a little better in my limited experience but I settled on the increased noticeable damage from the hollow point of the Remington.
That gun alone has been a wonderful pistol marksmanship trainer.

Since you're Q & have a supply of material & machines I'd love to see your creations. I took an UncleMikes Medium frame auto nylon belt holster & cut the muzzle seam to allow the can to pass through. I hardly ever go anywhere out of the metro without it.

Coons
whistle pigs
Opossum
rabbits
yote
frogs
snappers
bushy tailed rats
skunks
and. . . well, maybe other nuisance feathery critters.

Wait until you set up a bolt gun. I've got a feeling your going to go strait evil.

Yeah - verrry nice! Cool

ermm ... about that holster ... say a fella had a .45LC 1871~72 Colt Open Top with a section of rail on it and a MRDS & he needed a nylon holster for it...where would a guy go for something like that? Wink

Not to shit on anyone's riff here, but let me just see if I grasp this concept, ok? You're suggesting that we take some fucking parking shuttles, and reinforce them with some aluminum siding, and then just head on over to the gun store and watch our good friend Andy play some cowboy movie jump-on-the-covered-wagon bullshit. Then, we're gonna drive across a ruined city, through a welcome committee of a few hundred thousand dead cannibals, all so that we can sail off into the sunset on this fucking asshole's boat?

Yeah, pretty much.

Ok, I'm in.

Stephen, Nice gun!

I just finished putting one together as well.

I custom made this mount to get the optic lower on the gun. The TLR-2 is of the IR variety for night ops... There was some guy looking at doing Crimson Trace IR conversions for these things...

And for longer range interdiction:

What kind of POI, POA do you have on the sight?

thanks

Both are zeroed for 25 yards (oddly enough, that is the distance from my porch to the woodline...)

The offset is pretty bad for the laser; easily 4 or 5 inches out to about 10 yards where it starts to close the gap quickly. I have not shot the laser past 35 yards, but it seems to be minute of squirrel between 15 and 35 yards. I'd like to get one of the green LaserMax Uni-Max to try at some point, but was able to put everything together as you see it here with stuff I had in my shop.

Thanks, I could have asked that a little better I suppose. Was mostly wondering about exit wounds.

That has got to be the absolute coolest thing I have seen all week! I am going to need to get one of those as soon as I get back CONUS!!!

I'll have to get my daughter to start luring the pretty squirrels in with peanuts by day so I can have some target practice by night.
Killer

What made you move with the 22/45 as a host? Was it the railed top option, other pieces & parts availability etc?

That was my first choice several years ago but after facing the weight issue & the hassle with getting the serialized threaded upper I moved to the Buckmark option.
My half blind old man has played with a Hako mounted similar to your configuration but ended up getting rid of it because he claimed that he couldn't get use to the POA/POI floating at non zeroed distances. I only tried it at 50' so never got to see 1st hand what his complaint was. All I could figure is that the HOB issue of his reticle was exacerbating the variation in POI at other distances.
I'm sort of cheating and asking you for research help. I don't intend to mount my RDS on my .22 but I do have a naked FNP45/Osprey that may be implemented in Operation Kill the Furry BastardsCool

I'm pretty stoked to see someone else suffering my tree rat hate bug. Maybe after it grows on you we should link up and do some porcine assassination? Buck runs the bait buckets & provides the bourbon Razz

Very, very nice.

I have got to get a suppressor for my .22s sometime. Was going to get one earlier this year after taxes, but I had to put the money to work elsewhere (but I DID get a GSG 1911-22 that's going to be absolutely bitching with a can)

Now my main problem is that there are no squirrels in my yard (anymore). It is a varmint no-mans-land out there, anything that moves gets shot with the CZ 452 .22 that's beside my bay window...

The Aimpoint mount works great. The T-1 is low enough to almost co-witness the irons. Haven't tried to shoot the 22/45 with NODs yet, but hope to this next weekend. The bolt gun is a .17 HMR CZ-452. The barrel has been shortened to 16", and uses the .22 Sparrow can, as well. Both are a hoot.

Good luck with the NODs pursuit. 2 focal plains of close dot & far target with only 1 focus point on the NOD has me looking for an IR converted X400 or unimax.
Skunks, boar coons, & yotes don't like to be hit with Sub .22lr anywhere but in the gourd. I didn't like the idea of guestimates on them being within pistol range.

I got into a literal running gun fight with a skunk right before I started the spin up for this trip. My son thought a f'n griz was on my ass. It was straight up John Candy shit with me running back to the truck & yelling for him to get in & close the door. . . no don't lock my door. . . UNLOCK MY DOORRRRR!!!!

I stalked up on the striper & tried to pop him in the back of the head from 10m or so. Dropped the shot low & into his body with my long gun & 3x optic{insert aggravated/chuckling NY Irish accent: OFFSET OFFSET OFFSET you fuuucking moron} I turned French when he raised his tail. After that he came right to me and was on me like stink on shit for a few yards until he'd stop & hiss then I'd pop him again & restart the whole process. He sucked up another few shots from the pistol with me peeling back over the dike & to the truck. I went & found him the next day. I'm pretty sure he only stopped after the last rounds broke 3 of his shoulders/legs.

Damn, DZ... I guess I'll have to stick with the 6.8/IR for those skunks. Works really well, but was hoping the .22 route would be the ticket. And yes... I can attest to the damn things chasing you. They sure can run.

I guess if I wanted to shoot unsuppressed, the Crimson equipped 9mm or .45 would surely do the deed, too. I'll have to give that some thought.

TNVC has them listed as MIL/LEO agency purchase restricted. The Lasermax link lists them as "available to the commercial market."

I guess that means agencies can get them via a vendor instead of factory direct.Frown

Εἷς οἰωνὸς ἄριστος, ἀμύνεσθαι περὶ πάτρης When i am War Czar, we first eliminate the word Marksmanship.... Pat F'n Rogers

The ones currently listed at TNVC are Class 3 (5mw), restricted like PEQs, those have been out for a while.

The one I linked to is the class 1 (0.07mw) version, was just released recently, and is unrestricted. I would give Vic a call. He always seems to have stuff available that's not listed on the site; if nothing else he might know where to get em.
If you guys are looking for converted full 5mw power lasermax units, let me know. I have converted about 40 of them, the lasermax units work great on these guns as the mechanical offset is not bad. I would never suggest them for duty weapons.
