Has anyone done an apples to apples comparison of the Gen 2 Naga vs. the Gen 1?  The Gen 2 is touted by Arc as having a more 'generous fit,' but the fit of the Gen 1 is for me a proven winner.  Personally, I wouldn't want anything roomier, as I think that would compromise proper fit and heat retention.  I'm curious what you guys have found in this regard.

Speaking of Arc'teryx LEAF, Friday (17 April) is the last day of their LEAF DM (discontinued merchandise) sale.  GREAT deals there; I bought a Gen 1 Naga in Wolf while I can still get a Gen 1.  Check it out.

Best,

Where should we look?  Direct or from a specific vendor?

Sign in on the LEAF site if you have access to it.

Kind of. The body materials of the NAGA and RHO are the same, however on the NAGA the sleeves are the same material as the side panels on an Atom LT.

I basically use the two interchangably, typically the Naga when Im wearing it as a standalone, RHO under something.

I have a RHO and Gen 1 Naga, fit is the same. I had to size up to an XL for a proper fit, they seem to run shorter in the torso and sleeves, as well as being tighter in the chest and midsection. I wear Lg in everything but the Naga and Rho.

I have a 33"ish waist, and the mediums were very snug on me.  You're going to want to go with at least a large.

Casey's experience mirrors mine.

I wear a 34" pant. I am medium in USGI, Crye, Carhartt, Truspec, Propper, 5dot11, etc. In Acteryx Talo, the large is close to perfect with just a bit of extra slack. Arcteryx medium won't do a 34" waist.

Go with Large.

Same here. Im a 34"x34" in everything, from Levi's to Mountain Khakis, 34R in Crye's, and the Large Arcteryx fit perfect, with just a bit of wiggle room for layers (or burritos). I have several pairs of different dirty bird pants and Large fits every time.

Does anyone know if Arc'teryx is working on a new version of the Minotaur half shell?  Or does anyone have any recommendations of something similar from another manufacturer?  I like the idea of a soft shell top with a hard faced fleece torso.

The Minotaur was always on my wish list, just not at the top, but now is discontinued.

The Minotaur is still available on LEAF.  I was just looking at the Drac and Minotaur for this winter (DC area).

Can anyone sell me on DWR vs the N72s WINDSTOPPER® 3L?

I was looking for the halfshell version, which they discontinued a year or so ago. The jacket version is still made.

I wanted soft shell up top with a hard faced fleece bottom. It was a good bit lighter weight than the jacket version, with the caveat of less WX protection.

Aside from the vertical arm pockets, there doesn't appear to be a ton of difference between the Cold WX Hoody LT and the Atom SV Hooded Jacket that has been a part of the LEAF line.

I'm sure it will work for a lot of folks, but I can't say I'm thrilled to see the evolution of the Naga.  I thought they got it right the first time, with successive iterations becoming baggier and more of 'just another performance sweatshirt' impression than a high performance mid-weight base layer.

The Cold WX jacket is more than twice the jacket the Atom is. Much more insulation.

Our local BP station has been running a T&E on several different lines of premium cold weather gear. The Cold WX was one of the things that was issued as part of this T&E starting about a year ago. It is legitimate. For days when the Atom is not nearly warm enough, the Cold WX is just right.

This fills in a noted gap in  the Bird's line. It is a system for a reason.

The Atom SV is 100g/m2, so is the Cold WX. The main difference is in the outer material. The Atom series used a "normal" nylon weave with no membrane of any sort. The Cold WX jackets have got a Windstopper membrane beneath. It will make it completely windproof, and a lot more water resistant but not proof as a GTX membrane would.

Smooth waters don't make skillful sailors

And to add further the Atom LT is 60 grams per square meter, so you might've meant that one? They had the Fusion jacket before, which is a lot closer to the current Cold WX jackets

Smooth waters don't make skillful sailors

I would like to see the xFunctional pants in person. The "double" pockets seem good IMO.

It be nice to see the price come down and some more colors.

ETA - it looks like someone at Arc'teryx realized they make a 2" riggers belt when they made these pants.

Arc told me (phone call several months back) that the SV was significantly warmer than the LT, and lacked the lighter material on the sides that the LT has.  It seems the main difference in SV vs. WX is the face fabric, as Duder noted above.  The SV is sized larger, as it is meant to be worn with layers underneath as I would expect the WX is, too.  I can wear a wool base layer, mid-weight wool layer and an Atom LT under my SV and be toasty.  A hard shell over that offers the wind/precip protection I need.

The WX hoody and Zip naga are on my short list. And a Ranger Green Atom LT.

Has anyone upgraded from the gen-1 Alpha to the gen-2?  I see that the length of the jacket was extended a few inches but I'm curious to know if the shoulders were streamlined at all. I found the shoulders on my gen-1 a bit too roomy even with a mid layer.

Just got my full zip Naga hoodie a couple weeks ago. It's awesome. I've tried on the previous iteration of the Naga and I prefer the full zip much more. It feels slightly roomier compared to the previous iteration, plus I personally prefer having the full zip feature so I don't have to pull it over my head. I carry a concealed handgun 100% of the time off duty, so I don't like pulling off a sweatshirt and risk exposing my gun when my shirt lifts up.

So, just wore the Assault Shirt AR for the first time today during training.  It was hot as balls and it performed great.  The mesh pits are a thing of beauty.  I'm in love, and the ranger green matches perfectly with crye, if you care about that sort of thing.   Plus the included elbow pads are a nice touch and you don't even realize you are wearing them, until you go prone that is, then it's a nice little creature comfort.  A+

What size did you get, did your normal size in Arcteryx fit well?  Roomy enough to carry with full size pistol IWB, and spare mag on belt?  I was thinking an XL, Thanks

x2 I bought a full zip Naga hoodie last spring and I love it. It's my sweatshirt/light jacket that I wear every day in the fall/winter/spring now. I like having a slightly looser fit as well, because I carry a gun off duty, like you said.

On another note, I want the Drac Jacket pretty bad. I think that'll be my next big purchase.

Would an Atom jacket layer well under a Drac or one of the other softshell jackets?

For what purpose?

Going on leave to CO later this month, and then doing field stuff in the 29 Palms area. Lots of stationary, wind-blasted positions.
