Mags, Glad you like it! Yours is looking nice as well. I think a Krylon job always looks better after it's seen a little wear and tear.

Borebrush, nice rattle can finnish ther bro. What color did you use as your basecoat?

Asome looking paintjob by the way.
Here is mine from way back. I think this is the fresh coat of paint put on right after I got home in 04.

From the day I built mine in 02 it has been painted. Think I might do my XD today Big Grin

I finally gave mine 'the Krylon touch' last week; a little present to myself for passing selection. Total cost was about $10 and took little more than an hour. The other rifles here put it to shame but I like the way it turned out. Ah, and you can see my 'little friend' below the rifle too, a Colt 1991 with a shorter trigger and curved mainspring housing to make it more like a mil-spec 1911A1. My other 1911 (Wilson CQB) is lost somewhere in the house; my mom did such a good job hiding it while I was on deployment she forgot where it is. Roll Eyes

My most recent paint job.

Rifle specs:
Rock River Arms upper receiver
Chrome-lined 1/9 16" midlength barrel w/ Gov't profile
Rock River Arms lower receiver
Magpul CTR w/ buttpad & Bravo Company MilSpec buffer tube
Bravo Company complete bolt carrier group w/ BCM extractor upgrade kit
LaRue 9.0
Aimpoint M2 w/ LaRue LT-150 mount
Ergo Grip
Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard
Tangodown rail panels
LMT rear BUIS
Surefire classic weaponlight w/ VTAC mount
VTAC Padded Sling
A couple of questions...

Do I need to prep my upper and lower, apart from degreasing/cleaning?

Any parts that I need to remember to mask off, besides optics?

Thanks!

Mike and Cameron, both, awesome jobs respectively. Well done. Your Rattle-can-fu is strong.

Quick question...I have painted abunch of gear with Krylon including a paintball gun, pouches, Kevlar helmet, etc etc, but never touched my AR or any serious firearm yet. Once I sell my upper and get the upper I want I am planning on doing a coyote base with the net effect and OD/medium brown striping. My question is...how many have taken the AR down and painted each individual part and how many have left it intact and just used light coats to prevent clogging of the small nooks and crannies?

Depends on how *good* you want it to be Smile

I removed all my optics, lights, taped them up. Taped the muzzle, and just sprayed. I didn't go as far as disassembling the upper etc.
