Hey guys these are some great paint jobs. I'm looking to do some paint myself and I remember seeing or hearing about someone doing a paint comparison thread but cant find it.

I have CCA tan acc. and my first attempt was way off. Looks like shit.

Anyone know what spray matches the CCA tan color the best?

Thanks

I've been puttering around with paint lately. Starting with 2 colors, khaki and dark brown. Was going to try some patterning on paper, but decided that since I'd taken them off, I'd use my old M4 hand guards.

The left one was khaki base coat, twigs blocking overspray of dark brown. Right one was dark brown base, net blocking for khaki overspray. Turned out decent, gave me a better idea of what I wanted to do next, so I took this,

popped the action out, unscrewed the buttpad and went to work. Tan base coat, leaves and sticks blocking the dark brown overspray gave me this...

And the complete rifle

It's a Springfield Armory M1A Bush rifle, LER Burris 2.75x with Sabian Brothers Stabilizer. I'm leaving the sling off for right now, since it's OD and I need a tan sling for this rifle...

Roy,

What colors did you use? What did you use for blocking? Come on, give up the details!!

The stuff in the foreground of the first and second picture I used as my stencils. Krylon ultra flat khaki, brown, and olive were my colors.

edit: also I used an old dcu pattern camo net to cover the glass. Its a Burris XTR, although I'm thinking about switching it out for a Leupold.

Went shooting out at some old strip cuts with a buddy. My Krylon camo job seemed to really blend in. It's not Tiger Stripe it's Strip Cut Stripe!

Updates on what? I have found that once you paint your rifle, you are really never done... You tweek, and you touch up, and then you see what some one else has done to their rifle and you finds way to include some of their ideas to make your cammo paint job better. Maybe you travel into the wilderness with your rifle to harvest a few whistle pigs, or a coyote or two and during that lull in action you look at your rifle and look at the vegitation around you and pounder the effectiveness of your artistic handiness.

Of course I felt that asking if there were any updates was a tad better than just typing "Bump".

Can't say as I'm happy with this picture, but I just got done with the 2 day rattle can effort. I'll update the picture after next months 2 day class.

Here are some pics of my M4gery, it was built with parts from Denny's Guns and Wes at MSTN.

For the base coat I used Krylon textured paint in Desert Brisque I gives it a cool rough look and adds some grip, over top of that I hit it with Krylon Tan camo paint and the Dark brown Krylon camo paint. This was the first time I painted my rifle and I am very happy with how it turned out.

Here is a run down on the parts used to build it:

LMT 14.5 upper with 1/7 twist with Phantom Suppressor attached.
PRI Gasbuster Charging Handle
LMT Chrome BC with LMT Standard Bolt
DD 7.0 Rail
LMT Rear BUIS
Larue Aimpoint Mount... in need of optic

Lower:
Lauer/LMT Lower with LPK from J&T Dist.
Vltor Milspec Modstock Kit
Magpul MIAD Grip
Tangodown VFG
Surefire M951XM107
Hodge175, Looks good. I like the idea of using the textured paint... I will have to incorperate the textured base coat on my next round of painting.

Now, my only concern, where's the green? The Bi-color brown looks good on your carpet, but on the green grass... and leaning up against the Gray bark with Green leafs, tree... It is a good first attempt. A good first draft. Granted you could just leave it the way it is. Anything of a Natural color (greens and browns) is better than Black.

Just think about this, when we hide while hunting, we stop moving near / in shrubbery, be it a tree or tall grass or bushes. We normally don't kneel out in the open of a big patch of baked, flat, hard packed and cracked, brown dirt. We look for things that break-up our outline, to blend in-to. We look for green leafy things.

Welcome to the club.

Seeing how this rifle has no plans on being used on hunting anything soon I am not worried about the missing green. I guess my idea is that if I am shooting something with this type of rifle outside then I am going to be in the prone... near something that would stop rounds...IE. trunk of a tree...in the shade on the ground with different colors around me mostly brown.. I think this color combo will adapt to more terrain... what happens in the fall when most stuff on the ground is brown and most trees dont have leaves.

I took the picture on the grass to show the contrast of colors.

What if you are in an arid area... not much green or in the high desert? There is a large grass field behind my house mostly cover with dying brown knee high grass?
Nice blaster and paint job Hodge! I don't need much if any green in the scheme.

Spidey, unless he comes over and paints your shit, don't worry 'bout his shit! Moon

Again nice job and welcome to the rattle can camo club, personal weapons division!

Hodge175, I did not in any way mean to detract from your accomplishment. I get filled with self-righteousness and bloated with dilutions of grandeur from time to time. My apologies. I figured since you were from, "Leafy Green", Pennsylvania and not, "Arid / Dry" & "Sun-Baked", New Mexico or Arizona, that adding a little green might be a good idea. YMMV

Then you start with something that doesn't cost as much....but for crying out loud, you don't post a pic of an airsoft gun in a "Painted RIFLE" thread...

Even with the faux pau of the air soft toy, I will give you that it is a nice job with the paint. Rattle can and stencils?

Here is mine. It's my first time painting a rifle. I didn't feel too bad, because I didn't have to pay for the rifle . I'm still trying to decide if I want to try again, or just keep it as is though.
