In the recent course of pumping out several hundred rounds of .223 reloads, I was wondering how effective carefully loaded cartridges of 75 grain HPBT would stack up against the domestic US standard (mostly) of 75 gr. Hornady TAP often used in LE Patrol Rifle or SWAT/Entry Team applications. To the best of my knowledge, Hornady uses mil spec (I've seen Lake City and Frontier) brass, an unknown type/amount of propellant, and 75 gr. Hornady HPBT bullets.
I have alot of mil spec cases to burn, and I always run my cartridges through a crimping die. Hornady advertises their muzzle velocities, but as far as I know not the propellant. I use both H322 and Ramshot X-Terminator powders, but am wondering what others use to mimic the ballistics of this load, along with any thoughts on whether this is viable, shining examples, cautionary tales, et al.
