Well, I LOVE the new and improved e-File. I filed on 11/2, sent in my fingerprints (which I rolled myself) on 11/5, and received approval today, 11/20. Time to go grab my stock.

"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful."

Congrats!

I've heard the new efile is stupid fast, they even let you print yourself!?!

Yep. I requested the forms, printed with the right ink, and sent back. I had my fingers crossed but it went well. Prints weren't even that great, tbh. I'll do much better on the next few!

Local PD wanted $25 per sheet, fuck that noise.

I'm about to SBR everything then... my cats are about to get Form 1's...

Kaltesherz, I just got off the phone with Zenith after waiting for my order since January.

Still waiting.  By the time my orders come in, the Form 1's will probably be backed up again so I can wait another year or so to put the right furniture on the damn thing...

On the plus side, I did manage to snag one of the 5.56 'pistols'.  Should make a nice little HK33KA3 copy.  Picking it up today with a little luck, if the delivery man cooperates...

I'm glad I got my MP5 when I did - no more POFs seem to be coming in and the Zeniths are vaporware at this point. The PTRs seem to be the only decent domestic option but even then I'm leary of them. This POF has run and run, it's a blast to shoot. I'm looking forward to trying it with the A3 stock now!

Just get Manx cats, they are SBRed straight from the factory.

Hahaha I took a bunch of similar ones for my Christmas card list... even found the Eagle bag used by the terrorists for pictures. I’ll see about pulling those out to share. In the meantime:

Does anyone know if there are any significant differences between the older ATI imports and the newest Zenith imports? My understanding is that they are/were imported by the same company but the receiver import/receiver markings are significantly different.

IIRC there were 2 models imported by ATI- a SP89 type and a HK94 type. The full size 94 had a slightly modified magwell to only take proprietary 10 round  mags for 922r.

I’m sure HKpro has more info if you want to go down that rabbit hole.

SP89 clone

Full size. Some users (probably most) modded the magwell to take regular MP5 mags

I was pretty interested in those in the past, but I read a review that made it sound like it was a pretty weak laser and only good up to bad breath distances- what would you say is it's effective range?

I can use it in my semi-urban neighborhood to PID ranges (180-200m). No doubt in my mind it’s a capable little laser, and since I didn’t need onboard IR illum I paired it w/ my M600U. Just hasty zero’d it looking out my garage and adjustment was quick and easy, no mushy dials.

Pin vs shelf. Civilian-legal (in the US only) semi guns have a hackjob "shelf" to replace the front pin and keep the gripframe from falling off.

By normal HK standards (full auto guns etc):

  • 2 pin (1 front, 1 back) is the 9 mm (MP5/HK94/SP89...), and the 5.56 (HK33/93/53...) guns
  • 3 pins (add a second to the back) is the 7.62 guns (G3, HK91, HK11, HK21...)

Oh, and will a lower from an MP5 work on a G3/HK91?

Push pinned lowers have a hole in the front for a pin, as original MP5's have vs a "shelf" that it rocks into (like with civilian HK94's)

The new MagPul lower will work with HK91 and HK93, but not G3's because they too use the push pin lowers

Not all civie legal MP5's have the shelf, my MKE / Zenith uses real push pin lowers, I think the POF do too.

I believe those are "clipped" pushpin lowers, which is a conversion to use surplus pushpin lowers on shelf guns. The only civilian legal pushpin lower guns I know of are the very early G3 imports. Maybe a thousand came in before the 1968 changes to the NFA requred HK to change the semi guns to prevent easy conversion to FA trigger packs, which is the purpose of the shelf. Mp5s had just come around during the period, and I don't think any of them made it over here unconverted.

FA style pushpin - anything you see in this configuration that isn't one of those grandfathered in that I mentioned above would be considered a machine gun by the ATF as everything stands today.

Apologies for the double post, ran out of time in the edit window.

I don't know for sure if I'd like it, and I don't have the photoshop skills to mock one up, but I wonder if they have considered adapting the Zhukov folding stock to the MP5.

For those who might be interested, they also have a 35rd Pmag for the CZ-Skorpion carbine/pistol, and a MOE pistol grip.

My MKE has a push pin, I couldn't use the MagPul lower without making a pinhole, POF's are the same. The "shelf" is what keeps it from being an easy FA conversion.

The Zenith and POF offerings also have a bar welded into the receiver to prevent the use of a full-auto carrier. That's what allows them to come in as semi-autos with a dual-pin trigger pack, in addition to a small shelf welded on (smaller than the domestic models and the HK offerings) which precludes use of full-auto components in the trigger pack.

"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful."

So, it is not possible to put a F/A HK sear pack on one of these due to that fat that you can't use a F/A carrier?

Not entirely correct.  The shelf also prevents the lower from being able to rotate on the front pin.  I tried to and made sure.  So you don't need the front pin to keep the lower on IF you have the shelf.

Also, if you've got the FA parts, those two blocks appear to be easily removed with a little dremeling on the welds.  If you do that, you definitely need the front pin.
